January 2008  Meeting

                   Because of the holiday, our January meeting will occur on the second Tuesday of the month, January 8th.  The program  will feature photos of the recent Spencer-Charlottesville excursion, plus CSX coverage in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, presented by Jim Walker.

February 2008 Meeting

The program for the February meeting will be a review of the 65th running of the Santa Claus Train on CSX, featuring photos by Jim Walker, Ray Poteat, and Dennis McCurry, plus Dennis's video footage of the same event.

March 2008 Meeting

Ed Taylor will present a slide show of photos taken at a recent 15-inch gauge live-steam event in Missouri.  You'll think you're looking at the real thing, and actually you are.  It's just a little bit undersized as far as railroads go, and a little oversized in the world of model railroading.   You decide which application should apply.

Annual Picnic

The 2008 version of our annual family picnic outing takes place Saturday, May 17th, at 5:00 pm, at the City Park in Bostic, NC.  The park is located just a few feet from the CSX main line track of the Charlotte Subdivision, making it possible to view trains while enjoying a great meal.   Bring your favorite dishes of food to share with other members and their guests, and enjoy an evening of fellowship and camaraderie.  The chapter will provide drinks, plates, napkins, and utensils.  Those that have to drive long distances to attend need not bring anything but their persons, as there will be ample food for all.  See you there.

Also, at an undetermined date, Ralph and Olivia Hedrick, owners of the House on the Rock at Kona, NC, have invited the chapter to a picnic at that location.  Details will be announced when the date has been confirmed.

Train Shows

The next train show at which we will be represented is the Prime Osborn Convention Center, in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 23, 2008.   

And for the first time we will be represented at two train shows at once, with a table at the Greenville-Pickens Fairgrounds on February 23rd and 24th, 2008.

We will also participate in the show at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio, on April 19, 2008.

The date for the 35th Atlanta Model Train & Railroadiana Show, at Norcross, GA, is Saturday, August 9, 2008, and we'll be there.

After not hosting a train show in 2007, the North Carolina Transportation Museum plans on reinstituting a show at it's 2008 Annual Railfair, and the chapter will be participating in it as usual, with the date to be announced later.

 Annual Meeting

                               This year's annual meeting will convene on Saturday night, October 18, 2008, at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, in Bostic, NC, beginning at 6:00 p.m.   Mark your calendars for this event now, and further details, including the name of the guest speaker, will be announced later.         The meeting will include dinner, consisting of two meats, three vegetables, and drink, at a nominal price of $10.00 per person, with several door prizes being offered.
