                                            Annual Photo Contest

    The chapter sponsors a photo contest each year, open to the membership.  Photo contest rules are published annually in the June issue of The Jitterbug.  Any railroad subject is suitable for entry, whether it be steam, diesel, rolling stock, models, or railroad property.  The pictures should by in 8x10 to 8x12 format, either color or black and white.  Entries should be submitted to the chapter's address prior to the October meeting.  Judging and announcement of winners will be at the October Annual Meeting.  Prizes consist of $50.00 for First Place, $25.00 Second Place, $20.00 Third Place, and three $10.00 Honorable Mention awards.

    For the 2008 contest, a special award of $35.00 will be presented for the best picture taken between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008.  

    Entries should be mailed to the chapter's Bostic Post Office address.

Annual Picnic

                Each year, on a Saturday in mid May, the chapter sponsors a picnic, which is usually held at the City Park in downtown Bostic, North Carolina.  The crowd begins to gather around 5:00 p.m., and the meal usually begins an hour or so later.  The picnic is open to members, their families, and friends, and to other railroad enthusiasts who may be railfanning in the area.  We ask, but by no means require,  that you bring a dish or two of your favorite foods to share with the rest of the gathering.

                The park is located a few feet from the CSX Monroe Subdivision line, an important coal hauling corridor, and we are usually treated to one or more trains passing by while the picnic is in progress, much to the delight of both young and old.
