Annual Picnic
Each year, on a Saturday in mid May, the chapter sponsors a picnic, which is usually held at the City Park in downtown Bostic, North Carolina. The crowd begins to gather around 5:00 p.m., and the meal usually begins an hour or so later. The picnic is open to members, their families, and friends, and to other railroad enthusiasts who may be railfanning in the area. We ask, but by no means require, that you bring a dish or two of your favorite foods to share with the rest of the gathering. The park is located a few feet from the CSX Monroe Subdivision line, an important coal hauling corridor, and we are usually treated to one or more trains passing by while the picnic is in progress, much to the delight of both young and old.
